About the Artist

Betye Saar (b.1926) is an American artist of African American, American Indian, Creole, and Irish heritage best known for her work in assemblage, or the process of creating three-dimensional art pieces from found objects. Her art which amalgamates unique objects from various cultures, addresses social, racial, and political issues of the past and present. Her pieces and their themes have cemented her position as an iconic and influential figure in the art world.
